as promised, I also send you a postcard from Trier as well. Trier is a city on the Moselle in the west of Germany. The border to Luxembourg is only about 10 kilometers away. I drove by car from Osnabrück to Trier and wanted to meet my friend Olivia there. I met Olivia in Australia. She comes from Australia and now lives in Trier.

We met in the city center. I waited for her at the Porta Nigra. The Porta Nigra is a Roman city gate and a landmark of the city. It is very impressive what people built almost 2000 years ago. I went inside the Porta Nigra with Olivia. It was colder inside than outside and the smell reminded me of old castles. We walked up the stairs made of stone. At the top we stood by the windows and had a beautiful view over the city. I could see the marketplace, many churches, and the vineyards on the Moselle River.

After that, we walked around the town. It was nice to talk to my friend. I hadn’t seen her in 5 years. She told me that Trier is one of the oldest cities in Germany. There are still many traces of the Romans here. We then went to an old thermal bath. Here I saw the remains of walls, doors and gates. Later we went to the Porta Nigra again. It was already dark and the old city gate was illuminated.

It was nice to spend a day with my friend in this historical city.

Many greetings from Trier
Johanna
