Football is the most loved Sport in Germany. Growing up in Germany, you will probably not be able to avoid kicking a ball once or twice. Even as an adult, watching a match at least every four years during the worldcup is a must.
Today I would like to share some insights and memories from my childhood in Germany. Even though I am not the greatest football fan today, I still loved playing football with my friends after school.

Als ich 8 Jahre alt war, habe ich fast jeden Tag Fußball gespielt. Ich bin mit meinen Freunden nach der Schule auf den Fußballplatz gegangen. Wir haben lange Fußball gespielt und haben viel Spaß gehabt. Abends habe ich die Kirchenglocken gehört und wusste, dass es sechs Uhr ist. Dann bin ich zu Fuß nach Hause gegangen oder mit dem Fahrrad zurück gefahren. Zuhause haben wir Abendbrot gegessen und ich habe meiner Familie von dem aufregenden Tag erzählt.
Mein Nachbar war ein älterer Mann. Er war ein Rentner und ist jeden Sonntag zu dem Fußballplatz im Dorf gegangen. Dort hat der Fussballverein des Dorfes gegen einen anderen Verein gespielt. Mein Nachbar hat sich mit Freunden getroffen und das Spiel angeguckt. Manchmal hat er laut gerufen und den Spielern Tipps gegeben.
Fast jedes Dorf in Deutschland hat einen Fußballverein. Die Vereine der Dörfer spielen in einer Liga gegen andere Vereine aus der Nähe. Die höchste Fußballliga in Deutschland heißt Bundesliga. Hier spielen die berühmten Vereine, wie zum Beispiel der FC Bayern München. Am Wochenende kann man die Bundesliga im Fernsehen sehen. Viele Menschen gehen aber auch in ein Stadion.
Alle vier Jahre findet die Weltmeisterschaft im Fußball statt. Dann ist fast jeder ein Fußballfan. Viele Leute treffen sich mit Freunden und gucken sich zusammen Fußballspiele an. Manche Spiele werden auch beim Public Viewing gezeigt. Hier können hunderte Menschen Fußball gucken und zusammen feiern, wenn ihre Mannschaft ein Tor schießt. Wie mein Nachbar weiß jeder Zuschauer, was die Spieler besser machen sollten. Deshalb sagt man, dass es in Deutschland 83 Millionen Fußballtrainer gibt.

When I was 8 years old, I played football almost every day. I went to the football field with my friends after school. We played football for a long time and had a lot of fun. In the evening I heard the church bells and knew it was six o’clock. Then I walked home or rode my bike back. At home we had supper and I told my family about the exciting day.
My neighbour was an elderly man. He was a pensioner and went to the football field in the village every Sunday. There, the village football club played against another club. My neighbour would meet up with friends and watch the game. Sometimes he shouted loudly and gave tips to the players.
Almost every village in Germany has a football club. The clubs in the villages play in a league against other clubs from nearby. The highest football league in Germany is called the Bundesliga. This is where the famous clubs play, such as FC Bayern Munich. At the weekend, you can watch the Bundesliga on TV. But many people also go to a stadium.
Every four years, the World Cup in football takes place. Then almost everyone is a football fan. Many people get together with friends and watch football matches together. Some games are also shown at public viewings. Here, hundreds of people can watch football and celebrate together when their team scores a goal. Like my neighbour, every spectator knows what the players should do better. That’s why they say there are 83 million football coaches in Germany.
